Five Things To Remember On April 3

1. Pope Francis made headlines last week when young women were among those whose feet he washed during Holy Thursday services at a juvenile detention center. Women continue to be part of his early teachings, as he used a general audience today to speak on the fundamental role of women in the church. He emphasized how important women were in the day's following Jesus' resurrection.

2. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People was established by the USCCB in June 2002. It is a comprehensive set of procedures for addressing the allegations of sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy and is revised continually to reflect the ongoing commitment of the bishops.

3. The USCCB's Justice, Peace and Human Development Department's call to action for people to call their Senators to support gun regulation has received lots of feedback on our Facebook page. It's not always a popular stance, but one the bishops have been consistent on, particularly after the Newtown tragedy.

4. Did you know Pope Francis is a big soccer fan? Or that he "freezes" when he's on the receiving end of big news? Get to know his quirks in a really interesting Catholic News Service story.

5. God loves you.
